That time of year...

Been up off and on all night trying to get ready for going to the sisters for the holidays. It always seems so much more complicated than it should be. I think it would be easier if I had some more help, because doing it on my own is exhausting as can be.
I'm going to try to be brave and take only my walker. The wheelchair is in such bad shape, and I'm not looking forward to it breaking and dumping me out somewhere. If I get suddenly exhausted or hurt too much, I will just find a place to sit, wait for the issue to pass.
I've been looking up some delightful stuff on organisation and planning, because I feel a lot safer if I can have everything planned and organised... I found mention of "money envelopes", which I've done something similar before. I'm probably going to do an adjusted version of that system. I'm getting seriously into couponing and stockpiling, and trying to make more meals from recipes. Anything to cut costs... I found info on making detergent from just three ingredients, blue Dawn dishsoap, Washing Soda/soda ash, and Twenty-Mule Team Borax. AWESOME!!! When the math is done per load, it's a lot cheaper. Some DIY stuff can actually end up costing more in the long run (like when people are obsessed with righteous eating/living, and feel compelled to buying "organic"), and even if I didn't understand the science behind "organic" vs stuff not identified as "organic", I'd not be able to buy such things. I couldn't even afford to buy any kind of extra organising shelving to go in my pantry, I had to make my own using cardboard boxes the grocer was tossing, and a box cutter. The upside: Didn't have to spend anything on them. The possible downside: It's probably not the most sanitary option... but I really needed something to make everything more accessible to me, and DIY in this manner was the only thing I could afford. I hope to eventually afford something more sanitary.
I've taken an old binder of mine and I've set it up into an organisation/scheduling/communication station for the household, because even though depending on the person we're anything from semi-friendly to bff's, we're still mainly just roomies and we each have our own ways of doing things. I figure we can each work out schedules that work best for us by using a trial scheduling system, then go from there. I'd like this house to run smoothly, and everyone to almost instinctively put things back where they got them from. :-D I'm going to make some wall art meant to inspire people to enjoy cleaning and organising, because it's a real shame people approach it as just some dreary chore. They should view it as a game, and with each clean section, a triumphant victory tune should play out in their heads. ~LEVEL CLEARED~, right?

Okies, gotta go, more organising to do. Also need to make sure the Giftmas stuff for my two nephews are properly obscured, because I'm going to wrap it there. Don't want the kids seeing what they are getting. :-D I'll post about it later too, after the holiday, in case they are peeking at this blog in hopes of seeing mention of their gifts.

For my Klingon peeps: Quch QI'lop!
